As part of the Green Forward initiative, Stadtbetriebe Steyr has implemented a holistic energy and load management system. This integrates photovoltaics, electricity storage, charging infrastructure, workshops, HVAC and spot market access. Particular attention was paid to blackout safety, grid-friendly charging and efficient energy distribution via hierarchical load management. All energy flows are controlled and monitored centrally.

Integration of critical areas into a holistic system

The solution offers precise switching and control of machines and charging infrastructure during blackouts, improves security of supply and reduces the impact of blackouts. The holistic energy management includes load and charging management, billing and energy accounting.

Improving security of supply and energy management

Grid-supportive energy management allows electric vehicles to be charged at current spot market tariffs, which saves costs and promotes grid stability. Efficiency in the use of PV surplus is maximized by storing it intelligently in electricity storage systems and electric vehicles. Hierarchical load management organizes consumers according to priorities for optimized resource allocation and use of available energy sources. The project offers a forward-looking, efficient and sustainable solution for energy and load management in companies.

Grid-friendly energy management and increased efficiency

Any Linux or Windows devices can be used for controlling. This enables the use of the most suitable hardware. All logic is executed locally on controllers, which communicate with the multiserver via a multi-encrypted connection. The multiserver is the central system and data management. In the project described, the multiserver is hosted locally on a server in the plant in order to be able to maintain operation in the event of a blackout. The login to the web backend is encrypted via SSL certificate.

Flexibility and security in controlling and data management

The controlling system runs on hardware from different manufacturers. It executes the processes programmed with our Assemble engineering software and communicates with the multiserver, which handles the central management of all systems and data.

The entire monitoring and control runs via a customized user interface that visually displays the system and thus provides a quick overview. The functions can be individually adapted and expanded.
